Week 1 , Part 1 A and B
Wow, I thought I knew quite a bit about technology until I took these surveys. My knowledge in certain areas is lacking while my knowledge with certain programs is strong. I tend to stick with what I know. I really wished there was a "somewhat" or middle type answer on the Technology Applications Inventory. I had to answer "no" on many of the questions because I couldn't say completely yes to all parts. Does that make sense? At my campus, I am who people come to for technology help. If I can't find the answer then I go to the technology department. I took the SETDA Building Survey but could not answer some of the questions due to the fact that we are an all Pre-K campus. The questions regarding student use and accessibility were very had to answer. Our students are just beginning to learn to use the computer so they are not provided much access. However, as they move throughout the district campuses, I would assume the access would become greater. This is an assumption; I do not know the full expectations and accessibility to older students. The surveys were thought provoking. Many of the questions that I had to give a low answer to were things that are fairly simple to incorporate or do. Unfortunately teachers have so many responsibilities and requirements that technology seems to come last in many classrooms. The surveys remind me how important it can be to incorporate these things into the everyday learning. Funding remains a major factor in technology. I found the question regarding whether technology funding is equitable across the district very interesting. From my experience, I don't believe it is. I think this is finally being noticed and hope that change is coming!
